OK
What would happen If I placed a caged Queen with some honey comb in the trap out Hive
Why you ask ?
Well I can get the queen from my nuc but the Brood is scattered all over,
but there is one frame of Honey.
My thoughts are, cut a half frame of Honey and cage the queen
Put the above in the trap out hive box?
I'm afraid If I take too old Brood I will not get a queen cell
ALSO all I have too work with is a 3 frame nuc
I took an entire frame from this Nuc to use on my First trap out
However these bees never built more comb,
So I put a half frame of old comb I had, and they just filled it with honey
so my 3 frame nuc is really only 2.5 maybe 2.7
I feel the Nuc will Queen itself ?
This is Frustrating
Thanks
Tom
I started the trap 2 days ago thinking I had a good Brood Frame and I would take Half
Maybe go open it?
Vac the bees and bring them home for my Nuc and put the 3 frames in a 5 frame box?
If you place a queen and some honey comb in the nuc, you will need nurse bees to take care of the queen and any future brood that gets started. Otherwise, you will get a nuc full of field bees as you trap them.
I don't know if I got enough good Brood
I cut a 4 to 5 inch chunk and put it in the trap
I guess time will tell
The owner neglected to call or tell me they found the end of
the cone :-\
I got there and found a 20" X20" beard of bees hanging off his soffit,
and many others going in and out of the cone,
I made another cone placed it over this one, so the entrance would be a foot or so away.
I also made it tighter and explained He would have to either put a stick
or call if they find their way back in again.
I do feel good that the large amount on the soffit will find the brood
I took a Stick and wiped them off, as they recovered they were landing on my Hive box
Time will tell, but these bees so far are staying in a Tizzy
I would just use the nuc as a bait box and build it's numbers up. Forget about another hive for now.
