Title: Bee sting in paradise.
Post by: Dexterjc on November 08, 2010, 03:04:21 AM
So I have been in Oahu Hawaii for the last 4 days and today my wife and I went to the north shore to watch the surfers. As we were walking on the beach I happened to crush a poor little honey bee with my foot. There were actually about 15 bees stumbling around like they were drunk. Oh well, I am pretty sure my foot will recover. Not such a good outcome for her though.

When in  Hawaii unless surfing, I thought stumbling around like a drunk was what too do  :-D

hmmm . . . 15 bees stumbling around like they were drunk on the beach.

Did you look for a queen? . . . I bet there was a virgin (or recently non-virgin) queen in that little pile of bees.

Twice this past summer I stumbled upon a little pile of 10-15 bees away from a hive (one on the ground about 20 yards behind hive and one on a cinder block a few yards from the hives.  Each time, upon inspection, thinking "what are you goofballs doing?" . . . I little bundle of worker bees grooming and generally calmly walking around and on top of a little queen.
