I will be getting my first hives(2 for now) in Janurary or feb. and was wondering if I can use foundationless frames in Brood chambers and wood and plastic frames in the honey supers above that?I have studied about both the ktbh and langs and it seems like this combo would be the best of both.also I know to start with 1 brood chamber to start but when do I add the second chamber?Thank you for any help I can get as I don't want to be a bee killer the very first year.
can you put your location in your profile? what you do, and how, will depend a lot on where you are.
You can mix them, but it frees you up a lot to have interchangeable frames. If you have large cell in the supers and the queen moves into them, the natural comb starts to fail to help with the Varroa. I'd do all foundationless or, if you mix them, use the PF100 or PF120 plastic which is 4.95mm.
