.i was about to leave to go to the hunting camp on the 19th and a guy came over and asked if i would like to have some bees.he told me that his son is working on a popup trailer and he want to kill the bees if they were not out by saturday.to make a long story short i went and got the bees out.i only had an hour and a half to do it.i never saw the queen so this video is the first time i looked in the hive to see if she was in there. schawee

Good job my friend! You could actually tell they were queenless by their roar. Folks, Schawee and I agree in the best interest of the colony to allow them to continue with their requeening efforts as we still do have drones around.
Can always do a combine or requeen if things don't work out.
Those bees work fast!
Some very good bees, would be nice to be able to save the genetics.

Roar? I kept listening for a roar, but I can't hear it. I'm eager for my senses to get honed into picking up these kinds of details.

Nice video Schawee. I know these thing have to be time consuming but I hope that you and JP keep them coming.
Nice Schawee. I enjoyed the relaxed pace of this video. I can hardly believe they can get mated this time of year. I guess your temps must warm up pretty good during the day.
Its been warming up quite a bit late morning to early evening Annette, been in the 60's, lows in the 40's. Finished harvesting day before yesterday and watched bees from nuc clean up frames last two days.
Another colony nearby was getting in on the action and I had to reduce the nuc's entrance, had a lil robbing going on.
Watched bees bringing back pollen too.

annette, the weather down here is crazy.one day it could be 35degrees and the next in the 70's or 80's.i will watch this hive close to see what happens. ...schawee
Is it always that crazy down there? My gosh!!
Here when winter sets in it is usually about 45-50 average during day, 20-30 nights for a couple of months.
I am not sure the hive would make it up here if the queen (assuming it hatches) hasn't had a chance to lay eggs for the spring.
Schawee,
Did you get any of the comb or brood from where you took these bees? I can see you are quite comfortable with them (no protection).
schawee
I just wanted to tell you a few of us have been waiting for you to
jump in on this Thread :-D Instead of a PM I figure this would be just as good

acebird,i did have brood comb from the hive ,8 frames worth and 2 frames of honey .they made queen cells on three of the frames.jp and i talked it over and decided to let them try to requeen themselfs.right now the temp.will get in the low 20s but will warm up to 70 by saturday then another front will be here sunday and getting in the 20s again for most of the week.im sure when she is ready for her mating flight it will be warm enough for that to happen.if all fails i will do a combine with one of my nucs.the bees were a lil pissy at first because of the pace i was doing the cutout, only had 1 1/2 hours to do it.they did calm down a bit .going through the hive with no protection is something that im comfortable doing .most of my hives i work with no protection but i do have it ready if needed.i allways use smoke though. ...schawee
sorry tommy, forgot to post there
