Title: Bee Stings vs. The love of bees :)
Post by: backyard warrior on November 30, 2010, 10:26:22 PM
I can remember not long ago how worried i was about being stung by the bees. Now that i have my hives i dont even think about getting stung all i think about is how i can help them survive and how many more hives im going to start in the spring and how much info i can learn to be a better keeper.  I did learn that beekeeping is confusing because you hear so many different recomendations on how to keep bees efficiently to be honest there is a gray cloud in this part of it. It shows that man kind hasnt really figured out whats best for the bees or lack of experience with bees.  I have always been messing with bees as a kid and im still a kid  :-D.  Its just a sickness i cant seem to get rid of.

One of the things that makes beekeeping fun is you can decide how to look after you re bees using a mixture of methods.

Listen , learn , ask questions and make up your own mind

Its all good as long as the bees are  :-D happy  :-D

Edward is right on.  I take everything I read with a  grain of salt, look at it logically, use it if I fits my style and manage the bees the way I think is best.

I too used to be concerned about getting stung when I started over 5 years ago.  Now I work them with no gloves.  I work them much faster and with more confidence but because my hive quantities keep increasing I end up spending the same time at the apiary.

One thing you learn on this board is that the bee addiction is the same the world around.

And one reason for the varying recommendations is that what works in one part of the country/world doesn't work as well some place else, and vice versa.  And there are different strains of bees with different temperaments and preferences, as there are different beeks with varying temperaments, skills, resources.

So celebrate the diversity.  Experiment.  And do what works for you and your girls.

And enjoy the stings.  They are supposed to be good for you. :-D
