With the passing of the winter solstice yesterday, I welcome the lengthening days once again. May the days become bright, the global warming be great, and my hive get a break from this three week period of freezing temps. They need a break! 8-)
All kidding aside.....this extended cold period has to end at some point. ;)
I think there's three more days before the days start getting longer, today being the shortest.
On a high note we hit 26F today, cloudy (that's why we missed the lunar eclipse last night), but the warmest day we've had in 2 weeks or more, seems like it anyway<<<<C'mon Spring, but not to fast.

Hey...we agree lol.
Winter is not my fun time. Go to work when its dark and get home when its getting dark. Too depressing.
So are we taking bets on what Phil the groundhog will say on Feb 2 this year?

I appreciate your sentiment, but the sad fact is that the solstice marks the
beginning of winter, not the end. Winter officially ends March 21st and that seems like a long time from now. On the more positive side, we should get up to 52 degrees tomorrow so I will be out staining hives in the sunshine. This will be our one moment above 50 over what looks to be at least a 3 week period.
It is winter until I get to wear shorts out to work again.

We had no idea you wielded such power! Get those shorts on and get outside! What are you waiting for? Whoa, I'd better get the lawn mower tuned up.
:-D
When it starts to warm up a little...............(and the crappie move into the shallows).
Aww come on Bjorn, winter is just getting started we will have a few winter storms to deal with before everything is said and done. Get those shovels and snow blowers ready.
looking forward to the lengthening of days. i can take the rain, snow, ice, wind...but i need some light!
Heck, our winters don't really get going good until mid January early February! :-D

Like a Robert Frost poem, Georgia style. I like it. :-D
Same here Jp, but this winter (ok, not official winter so fall) has been a rough one already. Normally the bees can find at least a little bit to forage until late Jan but we've had 3 "killer" freezes already and everything is brown...even the spanish needle.

whining ? is that the sound the wind makes as it blows the snow around into deep drifts ?

Depth of snow ? up to my belt when i had to shuffle through 300meters of snow to get to 10 hives and shovel away the snow so they have a chance to survive to spring ! ;)
Have to find my snow shoes so i can take a walk into the forest so I can check on the rest of my hives , good way to burn of some Xmas turkey MMmmmmm turkey :-D
Collected one metric ton of creamed honey yesterday , filtered and bottled ready to sell to my neighbors to the new year.
Bottled summer flowers ready to bee opened in the cold winter night.

PA winters have always been my only complaint about the commonwealth. Not much that can be done about that but move but I'd rather not. Not now anyways.
