Title: bees removing dead ones from hive today :)
Post by: backyard warrior on January 01, 2011, 03:55:05 PM
Just got back from outside and one hive had a few bees cleaning  out dead bees and the others werent i tapped on the hives and heard them buzzing i decided not to open up the hives and let them do their own thing i cleaned out the dead bees from the bottom boards though.  If they need to move the cluster they will be able too on their own with these warm temps and if they arent going to make it there isnt much im going to do about it and if they dont i dont want them anyway   :-P

Its pouring buckets here today. Yesterday was in the low 60's and my bees were cleaning house too ( as well as their guts-bee poo was everywhere) What amazed me was the undertaker bees were dragging out the dead and chunking them over the side, then other ones were taking the dead off the ground and flying them to parts unknown and disposing of them. I went back out there later on, and there was hardly a dead bee to be found in the grass in front of the hives.

Raining a little here also, but at least it has warmed up a little.  I saw them flying a little between the rain.
