Title: cool weather cutout?
Post by: jlk on January 23, 2011, 08:59:52 AM
I got a call about a cutout in a shed. What are the pros or cons of doing this cutout now, or in a couple of weeks? The weather here in alabama is still "winter" but spring and warmer days are right around the corner. any opinions or insights would be appreciated...

I don't start doing cut-outs until the night time temperatures are consistently above 40F.

The only pros now are that the customer (if there is one) will be happy the bees are gone but most are willing to wait to give the bees the best chance of surviving the removal/build up process.

Cons, well, they don't make it, which is most likely, this time of year in your area. I'm in southeast, Louisiana and I'm at least several weeks out from doing any removals.
