Hi all!
I live in Northern New Jersey about 30 minutes from Manhatan and we indured another snow storm. The accumulated snow in front of my house is about 5 feet 8 inches. I think this is the 5th snow storm this season and the cold is presistent. I have two hives and lost one in late December. The other one is hanging in there. I hope it will survive. I ordered one package to replace the lost hive and will do a split to ensure
survival in mid sprint. The cold or arctic cold is not going any where from our area and the snow is not melting. I feel for all of the Beeks in our areas and frankly I wont be surprised if my second hive wont make it. All i need is a day with 50 + temps to inspect and add three or four boards full of honey for the surviving hive.
Peace
There is no telling how long it will take to melt a 5 foot pile of snow. Here in Georgia, the snowman in the front yard is now just a 3 foot pile of snow. Geez. But the bees are flying right now. :)
