Post by: backyard warrior on February 14, 2011, 03:56:42 PM
Checked on the hives today both are alive and the one hive is buzzing loudly there is lots of bees in there is this normal to have the hive buzzing like this?? i can hear them at the top cover and down below is this a good sign or a bad sign it was 50 degrees here today. Any info on this would be great.  thanks -  I have some fondant on the hive and i have two medium boxes of honey on them so i know they arent low on stores.

Any action out front?  Are they hauling out their dead?  Considering it's 50 degrees I'd assume yes on both questions.  If that's indeed the case it sounds like you're in fine shape.

most of the actions seems to be inside the hive a few bees dead out in front of the hive its kinda windy out so maybe thats why they arent out

They are probably doing internal housekeeping.  They may be dumping even more dead but they're blowing off the landing board.  I'd say they are doing just fine ( I have been known to be wrong, just ask my wife;)).

Keep an eye on your fondant supply, once started feeding shouldn't stop until there's natural nector and pollen available.  If its all they have they can eat it up pretty quick.

Making noise this time of the year is 'always' a good thing.
