Title: Both hives acting unusually
Post by: JP on June 13, 2005, 08:31:42 PM
Just checked ny hives & what I saw has me a little concerned.
Both hives normally come & go with purpose. going & coming back, going & coming back, bringing in pollen, etc.. I just observed both hives circling their hives, in good numbers. Are they happy, doing some kind of waggle dance, glad to see me, or could it be they are unhappy & want more space. My plan was to inspect tomorrow & I know I'll be adding that next super soon anyway. I have heard on this site that it is rare for a young package hive to swarm, they have not been here for more than 3 weeks. Any inklings as to what's going on?
Thnx
JP

Well, if it's in the afternoon that you see circling, it could be young bees taking orienting and defecating flights.  Don't worry, unless of course you're talking about a CLOUD of bees.

Happy afternoon flights are probably just young bees orienting and using the potty.
