Title: Not much brood
Post by: slacker361 on March 19, 2011, 02:03:56 PM
Ok just checked the hive, and while there are a lot of bees, a lot of honey remaining there is hardly any brood at all, maybe 20 - 40 capped brood. is this normal for this time of the year in western PA?

don't know your area, but what's your pollen like?  when the filberts went here, they bees started to raise brood.  then the weather got bad and the queens backed off laying.  they will do according to resources if you have a good queen.  you don't want her over-laying if they can't care for the brood.  you either need to feed pollen patties, or wait for nature.
