Title: Queen question
Post by: gardeningfireman on March 21, 2011, 12:38:29 PM
When doing a removal or catching a swarm, if you are able to find the queen, how long do you keep her in the queen catcher to prevent absconding?

on rare occasions i'll cage a queen during a cutout.  i don't do it with swarms.  if i do cage one i turn her loose as soon as i have the hive set up.  that's just me.  JP or others can give you the masters answer.  :-D

I usually release her when I set them up in a bee yard. on some occasions I'll keep her caged a little longer but never more than two days.
