HI everyone I just would like to know how many colonys would it take to produce a 1000lbs of wax?
What time frame are you talking about? I get about 1-2 lb of usable wax a year per hive doing crush and strain.
This season just gone i extracted five supers of honey - from cappings alone that gave me about 1kg of wax - 1000lbs equals 453.59kgs - if we figured it based on that as an approximate reference then you would probbaly need 2,270 honey supers to give you sufficient cappings. If you went two honey supers high on each hive and they were incredibly productive you could get away with 1,135 hives give or take :-D
