Title: Foundation storage
Post by: Hiveyleague on March 27, 2011, 06:36:36 AM
New to the beekeeping scene and have a question :? regarding on how to store my extra foundation.I've searched and can't find anything about it.I thought I read some where to can freeze it but not sure where I saw it.Is there a shelf life on foundation or do they dry out to the point they're not suitable to use any longer if they do?Right now I just have it all stored in the box it came in,is that good enough or do I need to store it another way?

.
It need not special storing.

Inside it gives a bad aroma into room. Keep in ventilated place.

In cold foundation gets a grey surface. It means nothing.

When you melt wires in foundations, keep room temp 25C

I just store in original box sealed up in my basement.  No problems.

My wife LOVES the smell of foundation.  It's half the reason I get away with cluttering the house with all "our" bee stuff

I store mine in my den closet and workshop, just keep it from direct sunlight and excessive heat.If it is froze and you handle it rough it will break like glass also. Montgomery Wards did sell bee supplies and so did Sear's & Roebuck, in 1964 i bought two packages of Midnight bees, hives, frame clamp, hive tool, and a two frame galvanized extracter, from S & R.. Still have the tools but the Midnight bees are long gone. (good bees) Jack
