Title: Small Honey Bee Swarm At Base Of Magnolia Tree
Post by: JP on April 05, 2011, 05:58:36 AM
Nice little shake & pretty bees. As a bonus I have pics of another swarm I shook yesterday as well. That one was up in a tree branch about 15' up. Right after the shake I got popped about 10-15 times, all the while of course running like a school girl.

Them girls were just a lil hungry, fed 'em and tucked 'em in with a good night story, they calmed down just fine.

Another nice one, but where's the video of you running like a school girl?  That's one many of us would be interested in seeing....LOL

Ladies were fanning like crazy when you zoomed in on the landing board. They were happy for a home to find them it appears. Nice

You know, I told my wife I got stung in the face, neck and back while running away after the shake and she also found quite a bit of humor in it!  :-P

First time after a shake I've seen the bees drop and curl right towards me! At least they weren't those really burning kind of stings.

I can find humor in it as I got nailed a couple of times yesterday.  The four queens I ordered came, so I made up some nucs and installed the queens in them.  In the process, got one in the neck, two behind the left knee, and the last in the left butt cheek.   I wasn't very fond of them, but Pam got a chuckle out of them, especially the last one.  AHHH, the joys of beekeeping! :-D

JP was it a cold day? Those bees were clustered tight together.

Something so, so sweet about this removal that made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Guess how gently you treated this swarm. I just loved the part where they were fanning. So cool!!  I shared this one with the JP groupies.

A cold front was coming in and these bees were very aware of that fact, is why they were clustered tightly.
