I wanted to transfer a loaded 5 nuc to my 10 frame today. Trouble is the weather. Today is very windy and cloudy, high might reach 47, the next 4 days into low 60's but rain every day. I want to transfer these bees because I think they are ready to swarm at any moment. I know I should have done this previous, but didn't. Would I be better to risk today or wait?
LOL not sure whats happening, I start in the right forum, and when I post it it goes to another. Operator error I'm sure, would moderater please erase
Why not add boxes to the bottom when needed when at is (the nuc) full of honey pull it off

Just my 2 cents

Great idea on setting them over an empty box Jim.
The bottoms of my nucs are permanent. Thanks for the thought. Need to make my mind up in about 2 hrs.
Oh well just bee fast on the transfer. How you know why I will not owe a permanent bottoms on hives or nuc

2 hours? I think 2 minutes would be better.
I would add another nuc box on top (knock the bottom off the empty one if needs be). They seem to grow faster as two 5-frame high over a single 10 frame anyway. Then when the weather gets better you could move them to 10 frames.
Jim 134; Thanks for the pics, I always wondered with the type of system shown, how do you keep rain from getting inside?
Agreed, get rid of permanent bottoms.

I do have some 1/2 Telescoping Covers (10 frame) and Telescoping Covers for the nuc (not in pic)
I would add another nuc 1 box on bottom I have done it in snow/rain/cold just be fast about it.
(look at Renly#7) my bottom are NOT permanent .
Do bees in Wisconsin use propolis :?
BEE HAPPY Jim 134 :)
Do bees in Wisconsin use propolis? You are kidding right :-D?
I swear my bees have a little hidden propolis factory in their hives sometimes, or maybe they just set it up at night :-\
Sorry for the misunderstanding Jim, but I was agreeing with you about not having permanent bottoms. Thanks for the explanation on keeping weather out.
