Title: Got to watch a queen hatch today
Post by: Pink Cow on April 18, 2011, 01:13:33 AM
Very cool! My daughter and I were going through a friend's hive with her and it was full of swarm cells. On the fourth frame we pulled, one of the two cells on it was starting to break open as we noticed it. We held it out to see if we might get lucky and see her come out and she cooperated right away. Just a few minutes later she popped out and scrambled up onto the frame.

I was surprised that she was not as much larger than a worker given the size of the cells. I guess they are that large partly so they can store so much jelly in there with her?
