Title: Swarm at my trap.
Post by: sterling on April 23, 2011, 08:46:53 PM
Went to the property where I have my swarm traps to check em. And low and behold their was a swarm on one of em. I watched for about two hours to see if they were going to go inside but they never did. I left em hanging their hoping they will go inside. If they do take up residence how long should I leave them before I take them down. The trap is a 5 frame deep box and the bees are about double a 3# package. I have the trap in a deer stand about 15 ft up. BTW this is my first try at swarm traps. I took pictures but don't know how to add them.

Great. I had a swarm collected in a 5 frame and they got too hot and left.

I would Go back out with a 10 frame box, bottom and top, put those bees in
They may be so big they have filled it and you are seeing the rest hangin outside
I would house them and bring them home and don't forget to offer some
1 to 1 syrup as a house warming present :-D
