Have hive spacer to allow moisture release over winter, would like to know why this spring the bees are going to the top opening? Is it wrong to have this now? Should I cover the hole, however they seem to feel this is their entrance, I do see bees at the lower entrance but not like when the queen was put in last year they should be zooming in and out the lower entrance are they using the top box only? ....want to tell people here, I live in central pa. and bees this Easter are bringing in pollen like crazy, I assume this is a good sign??? Thanks to all who help this newbie!

It is better to keep open because bees may leave the hive during rain and cold morning and they have to return quickly to warm hive.
Bees will use any and all holes in a hive for doors. Have you looked inside the hive yet?
I tried last Sunday to open hive when weather was decent here and was surprised to find that the hive bodies were sealed together {propolis} upper and lower and the insides too. What do you think I will find when I get in?
You'll never know until you look.

the top entrance they are using is cool --but if you dont take that spacer off
they will fill that void with burr-comb and honey once your flow starts-makes
for a real mess - ;) RDY-B
