Title: Empty queen cage as swarm lure?
Post by: Hethen57 on April 26, 2011, 06:47:02 PM
It seems like bees are really attracted to empty queen cages sitting around after you have released the queens.  Does anyone know if putting an empty cages in the swarm trap would help as a lure?  Not sure if they even retain their smell.  Just curious.

Good question.  I think the scent would stay in there for a little while anyways.   Give it a try.

never thought of doing that makes sence though.  just wonder how long the smell of the queen stays in that cage before you have to change it out for another one or some other swarm lure.
