Title: Queen cells in a Trapout
Post by: VolunteerK9 on April 29, 2011, 11:27:06 PM
I placed a frame of eggs and uncapped brood in a trap out this past Tuesday. I plan on taking the bees  to combine with another hive at home (wanting to use the genetics of the potential new queen) I would also like to reset the trap out using some cut out queen cells. At what time are the queen cells at their toughest where they could potentially withstand the 12 mile drive back to my house? Or should I just use another new frame of eggs and lose all the other viable queen cells?

Wait until they have been capped for 3 days.

Assuming from day old larvae not from 1st day egg was laid, cell is capped on day 5. From day 5-7 they are most vulnerable.

Im sure of eggs in the frame-just not real good on gauging age of larvae, so would it be safe to check on day 7 that the frame was placed in there?

Tues. was day 3. Day 14 would be the best day to move them. 10 days after you placed them in the trap.
