i just mark them while shes running around on the frame :-D. i was afraid of hurting her by picking her up. It was quite easy. Just a little dab and done. I heard the nurse bees will clean her off but that didnt happen to me and I did all four hives.
Practice, practice, practice... on drones of course... with last year's color, of course...
Great video! Anybody have a list of the different colors to mark them for the different years? Larry
There is a queen producer here that won't mark his queens prior to selling them since because apparently the queen acceptance rate might drop.
However, he told me to mark the queen once it is established in the hive.
Is this true ? Are there any studies confirming this ?
Are you using a Bee marking pen
what other things can safely be used to mark them
Shanevrr
When you say "Just a little dab and done"
is this a pen or a small ??
I believe i read Hobby shop paint
If so how do you apply
Thanks
Tommyt
Colours run a five year cycle, eg 2011 is 1 and 2020 will be 0
The colours are:
White Yellow Red Green Blue
1 2 3 4 5
6 7 8 9 0
The Dave Cushman site gives a memory trick to remember it:
What, You Rear Green Bees.
