Just noticed that a few honey bee's here in southern La. have been leaving the hive due to SHB, they must not have been around here long, looks like a good thing I am importing my Ga. hive's that has been dealing with them for a long time. anyone else in southern La. been seeing this?
I have zero problems with shb taking over any healthy hive here and just about everywhere I remove bees from. They are in just about every hive and fly with swarms.
Our bees keep them in check just fine.

maybe it in our location, my father had 3 hive up and vanish, the 3rd I came over to see what was happening, first frame, SHB larva everywhere, his hive have been there untreated for 14-15 years, handle mites very well but SHB ran them out,
Shb are opportunists. In my area I only get a problem if the bees are in a weakened state but before shb does them, in wax moth would beat them to it.
Now my place in Ms seems to have a ton of shb. I did have one abscond due to them, was the most shb I've ever seen in any of my hives. The shbs showed up in mass right after I moved them their. It was incredible.
I can only assume you have had shbs in your area for some time now Ted.

How were the ga bees looking the last time you checked them and when were you going to get them?
my Ga bee's look great, I am going to probably get them down here this fall, not sure about SHB here in La, just started working bee's here, one thing I do know is my bee's in Ga have dealt with them a long time, still learning the La flows and etc
.
Ted, I can't speak for the entire state but I've done removals in Baton Rouge and as far as Abbeville and have seen shbs. I have got to assume they are in your area.
Local bees in your area is what you want and I would be willing to bet they are living amongst shbs every day.

JP, got one house in Garyville that has 4 hives in the house about 20' apart, if your interested I can hook you up with a person to call, told him it would cost, I just dont have time to do it.
PM me the info and I'll get the ball rolling. Should be a lucrative job if he bites.

SENT YOU THE INFORMATION, DID YOU GET IT?
I only lost a swarm that moved into a swarm trap to SHB but like JP says I see them in all my hives and I tend to keep my bees a little tighter than normal and not give too much extra space.
