I just had to share . . . during our third hive inspection, we saw the queen for the first time! I had been reading tips on how to spot the queen (including the recent helpful thread about it) and was determined to find her this time around. Turns out, I didn't even have to try as the second frame I pulled out, there she was! My sister was out photographing during the inspection and was able to get a good photo of her . . .

And now with having seen the queen once and watched her behavior and the surrounding bee's behavior for a bit, maybe it will be easier to spot her in the future inspections. =)
That's great Sarah! Sure is a treat to find her majesty. Nice picture your sister took.
good job serah.sometimes when you're not looking for her majesty, she will just appeare. ...schawee
Ain't beekeeping so much fun.
exciting isnt it!!!!, Im having so much fun Im buying more hives. lol :-D
Good job there most of the time she's easy to find unless you really need to find her and she seems to just vanish in a sea of bees. Congrats though seeing your posts looking like your bees are doing real nice.
Thanks everyone! Yes, beekeeping is so much fun! We're loving it so far and are already planning on adding several more hives next year. =)
I remember how happy my wife and I were when we first found the Queen. Now it comes a lot easier, but we still have a few queens that we rarely ever get to see. Larry
WTG Sarah! She;s a beaut too!

That is so great.
Being new myself I understand your enthusiasm. What a great day for you!
And nice pic!
Congrats on finding the queen..... She's a nice dark queen too! I like the darker bees like carniolans....I think the queens and workers are som much more "colorful" if you will..... Hope you have many more fun and exciting experiences like this one!
Congratulations Sarah on finding the queen and your new beekeeping hobby. I started beekeeping in 2006 with one hive and now have 4. 4-5 is my limit.
Yes you will find you want more and more. I would love to have around 10, but not being very strong, I need to curb my desires. If you have lots of help, then having more hives is wonderful.
I still get excited when I see the queen. It never gets old.
Have a great time with your new adventure,
Annette
