Title: Six weeks away....advice?
Post by: gailmo on June 02, 2011, 04:57:33 PM
I am leaving for South Korea next week... teaching a course and will be away for six weeks.  I am going to pull as much honey as possible before I depart --trying to leave lots of empty space for more honey and brood.  Any other suggestions or advice of "must do" before I leave?

My husband will be here....but experienced a bad reaction to a single sting last fall - so now I have become the full time beekeeper.  He is willing to go into the hives if serious problems arise...but I would rather just leave them "bee" and hope they stay healthy and happy while I am away.

Leave empty supers for any summer honey on the hives and tell each one of the bees that you will miss them.  That's all I would do.

Thanks,
I plan on giving each and every one of them a hug before I go!  But also need to dump a queenless swarm hive I have tried several times to re-queen.  Following that strand in the forum closely.  Decided I will just dump the girls in front of my other two hives and hope they find a new home.
