Title: Bee Bowing & Fanning
Post by: rail on June 05, 2011, 09:46:35 PM
Watching the hive I noticed a bee, facing the reduced entrance, bowing and fanning. That means the Queen is close and the bee is calling for the others?

Just one bee?   Sending out pheromone most likely.

Check out Bee bearding and bee festooning on the youtube for cool videos.

Or they are just fanning for ventilation...

I noticed a large group of bees fanning the entrance this evening for the first time.
It is our first hot weekend so it makes sense. Neat to see, though.
