Hello,
What do you guys think about 3/4" plywood for bottom board ?
Anybody used them for a while ? Do they warp / decompose easily ?
About screen boards:
I'm thinking of buying #6 mesh + 3 wood pieces 3/4" for the borders. The mesh would be stapled to the wood pieces.
To use it, I would stack it on the bottom board.
The original bottom board entrance would be in the back of the hive so that I can pull any sticky boards out easily.
I also don't winter the hives on screened boards so I need normal bottom boards for winter.
Cheers 8-)
I haven't used plywood for a hive bottom board, but I have used ¾" plywood outside for other apps here in Michigan. No matter how many coats of paint I've used, the plywood starts to delaminate in 1 to 3 years. The pressure treated stuff holds up a bit better. I really don't like plywood, the stuff doesn't weather well in my climate and is heavy. Solid wood is a better long term investment.
i use it on all my tops and bottoms.you have to make sure you seal the edges with water proof glue and paint the wook real good.i have some that 5 years old and still in great shap. schawee
