Title: Unintentional Split
Post by: D Semple on June 14, 2011, 10:48:57 AM
I screwed up and didn't give one of my booming swarm captures from early May enough room and they swarmed agian. This time around I'll stay ahead of them better.

You think maybe I should have know this was coming. After drawing out 2 mediums of perfectly drawn out foundationless frames this is what they created in their 3rd box (which I added to late) -

Here is their earlier drawn comb -

Dang, that's a big swarm especially considering it just came off a May swarm.  Interesting that they're swarming now.  I've not heard hide nor hair of a swarm in over 3 weeks.  It appears the heavy flow is now starting over here.  My nucs from swarms and splits are starting to leave the syrup alone.

They drew comb bottom up.  :-D I sometimes forget to move a drawn frame into the new box and that happens too.
And yeah, that is a nice swarm!

Yeah I learned my lesson, when adding boxes of new foundationless frames always pyramid up.

Going to put it on the beer refrigerator so I don't forget.

At least you got to catch the swarm and did not loose them.   Good catch.

Maybe the beer fridge is the reason you did forget :)

Oh darn, one of hives just swarmed on me just like your situation. Swarm hived on March 26 and swarmed today. Three mediums. Guess I added the to one too late. Still on neighbors tree while I type this. Will have to wait for them to come home to ask for permission on enter their yard.
