Title: How much honey can a swarm hold
Post by: thestrawberrythief on June 17, 2011, 03:07:44 PM
Hi
Just lost a swarm and as I attempted to make a nuc I noticed that most of the stores was gone.
I know that the weather has been bad here but it seems that the bees took quite a large amount of honey with them when they swarmed.
Does any body know how much honey (in weight ) an average size swarm takes when it leaves the hive?
Cheers
Greg.

.
A bee's weight is about 100 mg and full of honey 170 mg.

2 kg swarm  has about 800 g honey.
