Title: Wax producing bees
Post by: lilyfrog on July 04, 2011, 06:46:30 AM
Hi All,

I am looking at getting a high wax production brood,
what breed would you recommend?

To much wax is not enough, very happy to have a lot of wax
Must be able to get in australia also,

Thanks in advance,
cheers
Mark

High wax production breed? there's Apis mellifera and then there's Apis mellifera... the only way you will increase your wax production is to increase the number of hives you have...

Feed the crap out of your bees.   1 to 1 syrup.   Crush and strain your harvest, then feed the syrup honey back to the bees to stare again as they are burning it up making more wax.  They will only make enough wax that is needed.   Put more need in front of them and the combs will grow.   But you will never get honey this way, only syrup.
