I have always used HSC for my hive bodies and have experienced no SHB, mite or wax moth problems. This year I did a cut out on a cut down tree and the bees are doing very well. On this hive I used a deep of HSC frames and had put on a super of drawn wax over plastic foundation and have left them at their original site(I've not brought them home yet). Today I did an inspection of that hive to measure their stores and to my terror found SHB in the super that the queen had took to laying in. I didn't find any in the deep with HSC and moved the queen to the deep and installed an excluder between them thinking I would wait for the brood in the super to be born then remove and freeze the frames in the medium. I can see how HSC works well for mites and wax moths but how does it work aginst SHB. Are they bad news for SHB's or have I just been lucky so far? Thank's, Brad
Went to HSC for a variety of reasons this year - almost magical results. How long have you been using HSC? So far, I have zero mite load, one small hive beetle. I have not tried to extract the HSC. Please let me know what your experience is.
