Need an umbrella?   Maybe a roof over their front porch.   May have been wash day?

that is a very old bee as you can tell by the lack of hair on the back, which wears off as they age, probably last day alive

Open hive today to inspect and saw another black, hairless bee? I guess I am learning the life cycle of the hive?

They are just working themselves to death.

I saw one just like it today.  Like a really bad wax job.  Sometimes they're robbers, the hair gets pulled off in fights.  This one was setting next to the entrance fanning with the rest, so I left her.

I usually notice the black ones, they stand out.  All the yellow hair is worn down and they look pretty bad.  The Light Brown/yellow ones I have to look closely.
