Title: finally a new queen
Post by: Martin on July 10, 2011, 10:21:38 PM
had a package that went queenless and workers started laying. after a few frames of eggs , brood , bees finally have a queen back in the colony . my question to you is how to boost production for winter. the flow has been over and due to problems with beetles ruining a some frames ( 9 were old comb to start) there are only 5 frames drawn in a deep box. i hate to take too much from the other hive , it also still has some frames in the 2nd deep not drawn. they have some stores for now. thanks martin

Feed them to get them to grow during the summer now the honey flow is over.  Make sure you keep the entrance reduced to a min.

I'm amazed that you were able to get a queen after the workers started to lay eggs.

I worked 6 months on one nuc and never did one.

I'm amazed if you had beetle larva (you stated beetle ruined frames- that usually means larva) you saved the hive!!!

when the beetles got in the # of bees had started to get low . the beetles slimed 3 frames but i guess there were enough bees to keep them from the other frames . this hive has really been a challenge for a new keeper with little experience . was just about ready to combine with my other hive . beginer's luck  :? thanks , martin
