Hi, my name is John. Im Southern West Virginialittle about myself i'm 30, prior military, veteran of Iraq, and Afgan, currently i'm a Deputy Sheriff. i'm all about the outdoors, if not at work or paid or not paid lol IE at home, then im in the woods and or the water. i do have a little exp. with bee keeping. As a youngen my grandmother allways kept bees, and she allways let me help with the upkeep, lol and my fav was what she called honey day ummm. But I want to come into this as comple newbe. Any help, comments, or sugestions are welcome. Thank you.

Welcome to the forum, and to a new start with the bees now that your all grown up.

You will find many folks here who are more than willing to help you out with all the questions you will have and to help advise you when you need it.

Thanks for your service -- my son is currently @ Benning in Basic.

The biggest differene in keeping bees now compared to grandma's days---- is the pest (varroa, SHB etc) we have that plague the bees today. Most complimentary of foriegn countries!

He is simply saying that keeping bees today is different then 30 years ago because we now have to deal with varroa mites and the small hive beetle and other pests like killer bees(the african honeybee) and others.  All the pests we have today are native to foreign countries.  Varroa comes from asia in the pacific ocean area, and Small hive beetles (shb) comes from Africa.  30 years ago the worst thing was american foul brood and wax moths.  Both I have never had any problem with.  I cant imagine how easy beekeeping would have been back then.
