Ok since I got the honey extractor, I put nine frames back in instead of ten , to get that nice lip of honey the the electric knife can go though nice and easy.... Just checked that box and it is all capped, but someone forgot to tell the bees to put that nice lip on the capped honey.....it looks the same as if it was the 10 frames.....
The nectar flow probably ended befor the bees could draw out and fill the comb. When the frames are evenly spaced a nine frame box gives comb that have probably 1/8 inch of cappings to be removed. If you want more wax and just as much or more honey use 8 frames.
Over the years they will get fulled out. Give them time. Just always make sure you have even space through out or the burr comb will be every where. And always use drawn comb first when switching to 9 frame honey supers. If new foundation, put all 10 in there the first year.
