Title: Curious about Honey Bee and Mugo Pines...
Post by: kimghob on August 05, 2011, 07:23:35 PM
I have a question and am very curious about why Honey Bees are going only down 2 inches on branches of Mugo Pines, then fly out and go to another branch and go down about 2 inches then go back out again.  Does anyone know why they are doing this?  Thank you in advance. Kim

Where are you located and when were the bees doing this?

Hi Allen, I'm in Tualatin, Oregon, USA and it still is going on, it is now 7:00pm PST.

It's only a guess, but I would think they are getting resin to make propolis.

I'm waiting to hear back from the owner of this Forum, to see if I can upload photos for everyone to see.

This might be a stupid question, since I'm a newbie, but is Resin or sap the only way the Honey Bees can make Propolis?

Your hives will be nice and sticky soon.  Propolis is what they are getting there.  I have Ponderosa trees and they are going there for the same reason.
I'm also in Oregon.

I wish I knew where they were going, so far I don't.  I don't think it is too far tho.
