Title: Alternating frames
Post by: banjojohn on July 11, 2005, 10:07:40 AM
I did a quick check on my best hive, it had slowed down honey production during our 3 wk. dry spell, it rained a few days ago and of course they had filled the super. I had a super I had cut honey out of and had been bee cleaned last year. It had the skim of remains on the frames. I put an empty frame between 2 full ones, of course this give me 2 shallow supers like this. I hadn't done this before , but I had heard they will stay between the lines like this. Anyone else done this or am I going to have a mess?

The "full" frames are capped right?  Then you should be fine. If they are not capped there is a chance of them drawing the "full" frames out further.

Yes they were mostly capped and they were pretty mean during this , probably thought I was robbing. All my hives were pretty gentle, I weedeat right in front of them, but that day every one wanted a piece of me. I went in at 10 o'clock on a sunny day and I had to back off and smoke a bunch as soon as I lifted a cover, got 1 in the veil  a couple times and did the  run behind the tree and get it off dance, first aggression much out of any of them this year.

I'm with Phoenix.  As long as they are capped it will work fine.  If not, they will probably fatten the combs on each side instead.
