Post by: FordGuy on July 11, 2005, 05:39:55 PM
what is it?  I had a aggressive hive tear into me yesterday, and before they did I smelled spicy bananas... (by the way, they stung me thru my suit - got about 20 stings.)

I read somewhere, I think in a post over at beesource, where they were talking about drinking beer when messing with bee's, that some beers, wheat beers I think, have a banana odor and that it's the same as the bee's "attack" pheremone.
I'm a rookie, but I suspect that's what your smelling

When bees attack they put out a pheremone that smells like banana oil. It is not uncommon for you to smell it when so many attack like this. The more that is released the more bees attack in that spot. :)
