Title: Hive spacing
Post by: rober on August 18, 2011, 01:09:28 PM
How close is too close (together)?? I have 3 hives that were started with nucs this spring. they are about 2 feet apart. i brought 2 more hives into the yard last night with the same spacing. now in my 3 original hives there are 20X more bees in the space between the inner & outer cover than there have ever been before. the weather has not changed. could this just be a coincidence?

Look at how close hives are when stacked on a 4 way pallet.    And then how many pallets are in a single yard when commercial beeks drop them.   I have mine about 2 foot apart all in rows.

Mine all touch.  IMO there is no such thing as too close... especially in winter.
