Post by: bksadler on August 20, 2011, 08:32:26 PM
I live in Southeastern Virginia in USA.  (Gloucester County).

New to beekeeping.  I now have 2 nuc hives and things are going well.

Lots to learn and look forward to sharing in the forum.

Welcome, How long have you had your nucs?

Thanks.  I got the first nuc in mid July and the second (which was a strong nuc with 10 frames) yesterday.  Both are Italians and I'm using all medium 8 frame woodware.

Excellent! You should probably be building them up for over wintering. I am not familiar with your climate and hopefully you will get some local advice. I usually keep two deep brood boxes for the bees to overwinter in. The top box should be full of capped stores and there should also be several frames of pollen available. In my area I am feeding sugar syrup and pollen patties to build up the population. You will have a great time learning about the bees and what to do when. Just when you get the hang of it the girls will change the rules.
