Title: My 1st extraction....
Post by: rober on August 21, 2011, 03:13:15 PM
I started 3 new hives from nucs this spring. as mentioned in previous posts 1 hive is exceptional, 1 is average, & 1 is averageish. the 2 average hives did not fill super between them. the strong hive however filled out 1 1/2 med. supers.
we got 2 1/4 gallons ( near 30 #'s ) from that 1-1st year hive.
the E.M.B.A. ( Eastern Missouri Beekeepers Ass. )had it's annual 'Extractaganza' yesterday. association members can sign up & join in. our current president has a farm in franklin county mo. & his basement is set up as a honey house. 3 extraction stations & a bottling station are set up & members can bring up to 4 supers each & extract their honey. coffee & donuts in the morning & fried chicken plus trimmins' for lunch with a bluegrass trio playing. twas a real good time. you get to extract & be fed & entertained & get to compare notes with a lot of beekeepers. If anyone in the area is not a member you should consider joining.
