Title: can you rent an extractor?
Post by: hvac professor on August 25, 2011, 11:03:01 PM
live in upstate ny and looking to rent an extractor to get hands on experience. Want to see if it is worth buying one next year, quite expensive for this year.
So far no luck and it looks like I will have to rely on the local honey expert to extracy my frames.

Have you contacted local beekeeping clubs?  Many times members will loan or rent or make some kind of arrangement. Some clubs have "club extractors" that members can use, or hold an "extraction day".

Local clubs usually have one or at lest point you in the right direction. I did crush and strain until I found a used one, Dadant sales a 2 frame plastic one I do not know the quality though.

Not sure if you have a Dadant & sons around you, but we do here in Florida.  They have a loaner that they let us use that did the trick (didn't cost anything, just had to put your name on a list) :)  Wasn't the best, but it got the job done for our first super and then we bought a 6-frame electric from them at their scratch and dent sale for a steal ;)
