Title: Black Bees
Post by: DeeBee711 on August 28, 2011, 08:39:04 AM
When I was checking a hive today I noticed a couple of black bees that were on the landing board kinda sunning themselves. They didn't have any yellow bands and were very docile. The other bees weren't paying any attention to them so I didn't think they are stray bees or a threat. Are they young bees that have just come out of their cell?

What's the general colour of your other bees and what queen do you have? is she pure or a cross? they could also be a throwback to some of the genes of the drones that she mated with...

The bees are generally black and yellow. I tried to post some pics to show my bees and one of the black bees but unfortunately, I'm a new user so can't post any image links :(

The swarm was caught earlier this year and hasn't been requeened.

Thanks bud1, I reckon you're right.
