The honey crop is off the hives. There is another one to two month of fall flow for them to build on, setting in their winter stores plus maybe a little more for me. Way to early to reduce the hive size. They stopped making drones a couple weeks ago, so little chance for a swarm. I dont think I will be treating the hives for mites this fall. Last time I was in the hives they were doing very well, good brood pattern, plenty of stores, enough open frames to keep them occupied for a while.
What reason is there to inspect at this time?
I may just leave them alone for a while. Any thoughts?
If you already have a fall flow and they have empty frames, you are ok for awhile. We got good pollen all summer and I think nectar is starting to come in now. I'm relieved because this was a very bad dearth as far as nectar is concerned.
