Title: Late Summer Inspections
Post by: BrentX on August 29, 2011, 06:37:55 PM
The honey crop is off the hives.  There is another one to two month of fall flow for them to build on, setting in their winter stores plus maybe a little more for me.  Way to early to reduce the hive size. They stopped making drones a couple weeks ago, so little chance for a swarm.  I dont think I will be treating the hives for mites this fall.  Last time I was in the hives they were doing very well, good brood pattern, plenty of stores, enough open frames to keep them occupied for a while.

What reason is there to  inspect at this time?

I may just leave them alone for a while.  Any thoughts?

If you already have a fall flow and they have empty frames, you are ok for awhile.  We got good pollen all summer and I think nectar is starting to come in now.  I'm relieved because this was a very bad dearth as far as nectar is concerned.

Yes, I'd say you deserve a little rest.  :-D
