My hive seems to be thriving, first year. We harvested 60 lbs. of honey in July from a third super (added third super in June), then put the empty comb super back on and an additional super on top of that. So now I've got 4 suppers, the bottom 2 are packed with brood and edged with capped honey, the third is full framed capped honey on the edges but 60-70% brood in the center 4 frames, the top supper is filling up with capped honey as well, no brood. But it is getting later in the season and not sure how I'm going to winter this hive (don't I need to condense the hive down to 2 supers)?
All four supers are regular size, 10 frames, except top super with feeder.
Live in South Jordan, UT (near Salt Lake City).
Just looked today in hive, didn't see the queen but excellent tight egg pattern, most prevalent in 3rd super.

I do agree, the luck of the honeybee has been with me, plus, lots of open space, lots of clover early on...
