Having been born (by the grace of God) in the hills of SE Tennessee, and am just about to retire and take it easy, it was pretty easy for me to come up with my username as that is what I plan to be, at least for a while................ 8-)
Even though my grandfather had bees when I was a youngster in Tennessee, I'm new to beekeeping and want to pick up the hobby now as I will have time and need something to keep me out of trouble.
Currently I live in SW Florida but will hopefully soon be heading back to the mountains so for now, I'd like to get started with just one hive. While doing some lawn work over the past weekend, I noticed an unusually large amount of bee activity on my flowers. That got me to thinking I could really do this the old fashioned way and perhaps entice a swarm to my yard. I have been researching building swarm boxes and think I will give that a try first.
I'll look around and find someone with some old comb and order some lemon oil and give it a shot. What the heck ????
Anyone in the Fort Myers - Cape Coral (Florida) area that I could buy some old comb from????

Welcome to the forum and catching swarms is a cheap way to get started in beekeeping.
Hello LazyHillbilly,
I found 2 hives while cutting the grass this morning. Apparently bees like water meter boxes. I have one and my neighbor has the other. The 2 box are separated by ~10 feet. They're (the bees) friendly, didn't even stir as I ran the lawn mower right next to the box. We both want to get rid of them ASAP, had to wrestle the wasp spray from my neighbors hands!
Want them???? Free!!!!
