I have a weed from hell that I have just identified as mugwort. I have been trying to eradicate it for years. However recently I noticed my bees were on it in droves. They are collecting a ton of pollen off of it during the morning. You can hear them on it from about 10 ft away. I cannot find any info on it as a honey producer. Does anybody else have experience with it and know of its quality as a honey producer?
As far as invasive (medicinal herb) species go, mugwort is a breeze to control when compared w/ others.
We had 28 (F) last night w/ 26 predicted tonight (our first killing frost, all squash leaves got hit, tomato's were covered).
Yet the mugwort (and many other herbs) is/are doing fine 8-). despite a few frosts.
As fall/winter approaches choices become limited with each frost, bees will find nearly any flower intriguing.
I've also noticed early morning visits on mugwort. Our goldenrod flow is nearly done here and Winter is coming fast. These are signs we should pay attention to.
