Title: Package bees
Post by: redhat on October 08, 2011, 07:50:42 PM
Are the bees sold in any one package come from one hive ? If the answer is no, with them having different smells wouldn't there be some fighting?

From videos I've seen on the internet of packages being prepared, a single package of bees usually comes from one hive, two at the most.

I don't know that they would necessarily fight as they wouldn't have any brood or stores to protect once in the package.

Package can be mixed.   Bees from 2 different hives.  And those are packages that are shaken.   Bees taken with CO2 may be from many hives as they are scooped in, but not many take bees that way.

If you want to keep bees from fighting confusion is your friend.  Making up packages is mass confusion for the bees.
