Title: Maitland swarm
Post by: hardwood on October 26, 2011, 07:00:24 PM
This late season swarm was pretty small. The fact that young kids were around prompted us to vacuum the bees (along with the queen). This is something that we normally don't do. We strive to avoid vacuuming the bees and especially the queen where we can, but it really is the best way we know to avoid having lots of bees flying around.

Did you combine these bees with another hive?

As of now they are still on their own in a nuc. I'll most likely give them a fram of brood to boost their numbers and nurse them over our short winter.
